Abstract
Voice handicap index have been widely applied as a meaningful protocol to evaluate patient¡¯s self-awareness of voice problems. The aim of our study was to find out the differences of self-awareness voice problems between dysphonic speakers and occupational voice users. 202 speakers participated in this study: 91 dysphonic speakers, 56 occupational voice users(teachers, speech-language pathologists, etc), 55 non-occupational voice users. All participants were from 20 to 70 ages without language. speech, and hearing problems. Two kinds of survey to questionnaire to assess voice problems were used in this study. Korean validated translation of VHI(voice handicap index, total 30 items) and SAIVP(self awareness index of voice problems, 15 items). For the analysis of differences among groups in the scores of VHI and SAIVP, one-way Anova analysis was used. And the relations with VHI and SAIVP within each groups was assessed using by Pearson correlation(p£¼0.01). The results were follow as: First, total scores of VHI and SAIVP were shown higher in dysphonic speakers compared to other occupational and non-occupational voice users. And one-way Anova analysis showed the significant differences among three groups in total scores of VHI total, VHI-Funtional and SAIVP. Second, there was a significant correlation between total scores of VHI, each subscale of the VHI and SAIVP within three groups(p£¼0.01). These results of this study suggest that self-awareness of voice problems may be differ according to dysphonic types and occupations. It needs to be more studied in clinical aspects.
